Is it possible to keep the number of total members in a private group private from the rest of our community?

The sub-group permissioning is really powerful.  The 4 types of sub groups are:

1. Private - this is an invite only option where you want to have discussions in private and members need to be invited/approved to join. 
2. Public - this is an open group that anyone in the community can join.  The only thing to consider here is that the user must take the step to join the group.  They either do this when they initially join the community or search sub-groups.  If you have lots of groups within the community that are open, this is the best option

If you see your community starting to stagnate a bit, make sure to post thought provoking posts to get people talking.  They should be relevant to the community but hit a chord that makes people want to talk.

Studies have shown that if a new member receives a welcome email from a community owner/manager, there is a much better chance that person will stay involved with the community.  Make sure you do everything you welcome new members.
