Hello. I wanted to write a little bit about using the new "Custom Terminology" tool that we added to GroupSwim last week.

First off, I want to point out that this feature is available to Site Owners Only. Site members do not have access to the following functionality.

This is a very cool feature; it allows you to rename the word 'Group'/'Groups' everywhere on your site to a term of your choosing. Want to call it 'Forums'? 'Channels'? 'Teams'? Go right ahead.

STEP 1: GO TO 'SITE SETTINGS'

You can reach this screen from your home page, or from the menu in the top-left corner.

STEP 2: SELECT 'CUSTOMIZE SITE TERMINOLOGY'

STEP 3: ENTER YOUR CUSTOM TERM(s)

Here's where the magic happens. Basically, you enter in the custom term that you want to replace the existing term. A few notes/details:
    • If the new term is like most words, you don't need to enter the plural form; we'll simply add an 's' at the end.
    • If the word has an irregular plural, like 'community/communities' (as I've done in this example) or 'cactus/cacti', enter the plural form in the right-hand box.
    • Currently, we are supporting custom terminology for the term 'Group'. We are open to other terms as well; please let us know here on the Pool if you have a particular need or desire for a specific term.
    • To undo, or reset the terms to their factory defaults, just click 'Reset' at the end of the row, and click save.

STEP 4: HIT SAVE AND YOU'RE DONE

As you can see above, everything on my site that used to say 'groups' now says 'communities'. This a great trick if you need to provide continuity to your users if they're transitioning to GroupSwim from an older forum/bulletin board tool.

I hope this is helpful. As always, please ask us anything here on the Pool if you have questions, problems, or ideas.
