If you see a post you really like, there are 2 good reasons to vote thumbs up.  First, you give the author some credit and build up her reputation which is great.  A community thrives with experts and the best way to determine who they are is to vote when you see something you like.  We use other implicit techniques to determine expertise but explicit votes are better.  Second, every post that you give a thumbs up rating is stored in your profile.  So, you can go into your history (drop-down under your name at the top) and click on the rated list and see all the posts you've rated.  This is a great way to bookmark posts you really like.
