New GroupSwim Features - check it out!

We have a new release of GroupSwim on tap for everyone!   Our focus was a big upgrade to our semantic tagging capabilities.   What does that mean?   We made tag suggestions a lot smarter.  You will see much better tag results with email-in, posting, search, and browsing tags by topic.   In addition, we exposed a way for community owners and managers to train the tagging engine. This allows you to guide the suggested tags based on the unique terminology your community might utilize.  Using the tag-training feature, you can significantly enhance the value of your community and the knowledge it develops.

We slipped a few other things as well.  Take a look and enjoy!

The Highlights:

• Semantic tagging engine upgrade with support for synonyms, better handling of plurals and multiple lexical training databases.  End result, vastly improved tag results.
• Tag training:  New feature that lets site owners and group manager’s specific preferred tags and tag definitions.
• New delete tag capability:  In the sidebar of any discussion, we now allow deleting tags in addition to adding tags.  This is particularly useful for discussions created via email-in.
• Email-in:   When replying to a GroupSwim generated notification or alert, we now use the group email address instead of a unique address for that notification. 
•  Group thumbnails: We created almost 40 new group thumbnails images - there is something for everyone.
• New print action:  For all discussions we added a new action that produces a formatted page for printing.

Features Overview:

• Tag suggestions:  By now you have seen GroupSwim’s ability to suggest tags based on the contents of your post or email.  With this release we now support synonyms and much better handling of plurals.  We accomplish this by using large lexical databases to train our tagging engine.  You don’t have to do anything to take advantage of the new capabilities – just try it out.
  
• Tag training:  Site owners and group managers now can add preferred tags and tag definitions.  This does two things.  First, preferred tags guide our semantic tagging engine to suggest the “preferred” tags if they are detected.   Second, you can add definitions to individual tags to further tune tag results.  The definitions can be defined at the site level or group level so you can specify based on individual group needs.  We support entering synonyms, abbreviations and  “is a type of.”  For example, the Apple MacBook “is a type of” computer.
  • To try out tag training, go to site settings or group settings.   You can also specify preferred tags and site definitions when clicking on an individual tag.

• Deleting tags:  On all discussion pages, we added a new capability to delete tags.   Any tag with an “X” to the right is eligible for deletion.   A few simple rules:
  • On discussions that were started via email-in, anyone in the group can delete the assigned tags.
  • For discussions started using the post form, you can only delete your own tags. 
  • Finally, you cannot delete the last tag on a discussion.


• Email-in:  When replying via email to GroupSwim notifications or alerts, we now use the default group email address.  The email address format is: group.site@mailgroupswim.com.

• New Group Thumbnails:  We added almost 40 new thumbnails for groups.  Our goal was broad set of thumbnails that provides a very consistent look and feel to your site.
  • To use the new group thumbnails, go to Group Settings then click on the “thumbnail image” option.

• Printing discussions:  On all discussion pages a new action has been added that formats the discussion and it’s replies for printing.   The action can be found in the actions side bar on any discussion page.
